The Daguerreian Society

The Daguerreian Society's annual Benefit Auction has two parts, the Silent Auction and the Live Auction. The Silent Auction consists of donations with a silent bidding procedure. The Live Auction consists of consignments and perhaps a few donations and will have a live auctioneer.

In addition to the Live Auction and the Silent Auction at the Daguerreian Symposium, we offer an eBay auction. 'THE DAGUERREIAN SOCIETY eBay AUCTION Daguerreotype' is an eBay auction run by the Auction Committee of The Daguerreian Society. We'll offer one eBay auction at a time. All proceeds will go to The Daguerreian Society, a non-profit organization. The Daguerreian Society seller name on eBay is "1839auction".

We will be posting consignment images on the website to generate interest.

Please send your consignments to:

NB: For your own protection, please make sure that you items are sent with proper insurance for loss or damage in transit. The consignor sending the items assumes all risk for loss or damage to the items while in transit.

  1. LOTS can consist of a single item, or a group of items.
  2. MUST BE $500 IN VALUE. We recognize that the determination of value is somewhat arbitrary, because the market always speaks for itself. However, we reserve the right to make the determination as to whether an item of group of items qualifies, and we ask for your gracious cooperation to that end.
  3. 10% BUY-IN FEE IF A RESERVE IS NOT MET. For any item that carries a reserve, we will charge 10% if that item is not sold, with a limit of $200.
  4. CONSIGNMENTS MAY SELL FOR LESS THAN $500. Although we may determine that an item meets the $500 requirement, that doesn't guarantee that it will sell for $500.
  5. 15% FEE for all consignment items sold.
  6. NO BUYER'S FEE. This is a point in heavy discussion. This may be the last year of no buyer's fee, so take advantage of it.
  7. OCTOBER 1, 2007 DEADLINE. All consignments must be in by October 1, 2007. No exceptions.
  8. LEFT BIDS. Because of the on-line catalog, we will be able to process left bids. We promise to execute left bids with absolute integrity. Left bids will be competitively bid by increments. We want our members to feel safe when using the left bid feature.

We accept donations with gratitude, for they are generous contributions to The Daguerreian Society. There is no minimum value to a donation. We are recognized as a 501 (c) 3 organization by the Internal Revenue Service, so donations can be tax write-offs. Donations will be acknowledged in the newsletter.

Our 2007 Auction

Our first consignment lot is pictured below. Since then, more consignments have come in and we think you'll be pleased with the quality. Please come prepared!
