The first U.S. flea circus opened here in early January 1838, billed as an "...Extraordinary Exhibition of the Industrious Fleas..." Mathew B. Brady, at about 27 years of age...and prior to his activities as a daguerreotypist, is listed as doing business here as a jewel, miniature, and surgical case manufacturer here from 1844-1845. The daguerreian materials supplier, Andrew Prosch, is listed as doing business here from 1845-1850. The daguerreian materials supplier, George W. Prosch, is listed as doing business here from 1847-1848. The daguerreotypist Nathan G. Burgess is listed as doing business here from 1849-1852.
