the "Salem Gazette" (Mass.) Vol. 62, No. 29 (10 April 1843) pg. 1:

  We copy the following jeu d'esprit, in Eng-
lish, French, and Italian:--

    THE DAGUERREOTYPE --TO ----

   At the famous Daguerreotype art,
     Sweet girl, I must own thou art clever,
   For, with one sunny glance, on my heart
     Thou hast painted thy image forever.

   De l'art de Daguerre fameux
     Chere fille, je te rends l'hommage,
   Par un seul rayon de tes yeux,
     Tu a peint, sur mon coeur, ton image.

   Dell' arte fotografica l'onore,
     Sia il tuo, chi con sguardo lucente,
   La tua immagine, risplendente
     Hai dipinto par sempre, sul mio core!
