Doug Scougale has been named by the board to replace the final year of Erin Waters' unexpired term after she resigned from the board for personal reasons.  The board approved the replacement unanimously.

Doug Scougale grew up in northern Ohio and was a product of the public school system there.

As he notes, "The introduction to collecting came with Dad bringing home a bank bag of nickels for Friday night entertainment and that just escalated following graduation from Ohio University.  Thanks Dad. I forgive you for the former and thank you for the latter."

Add to the mix a cross-country ride on a Yamaha 650 from Cleveland, OH to Chico, CA, and a part-time job at John Kranz's Penny Ranch, and Scougale's addiction became permanent.

With support from his dad a few years later, Scougale launched Yolo Gold and Silver, which, as Doug says, "has consistently enriched my mind and put food on my table since 1984."

As a dealer in rare coins, precious metals, estate jewelry and California history, his interest in daguerreotypes began when the first one entered his "orbit", as he puts it, in the mid-90s.  They have been a major focus ever since.

Scougale says: "Our society is a group of people that I am pleased to be a part of, pleased to be asked to help, and pleased to assist, as we face the challenges ahead.  Adjusting to a modern world of Internet and social media, attracting new members, and maintaining the high level of intimate knowledge is a full plate.  How an antique dealer fits into this scheme I am as yet unsure, but am happy to explore and committed to contributing what I can.  There are a lot of new ideas being put forth, and, as a board member, I seek to identify what will work best for our members and for the benefit of the Society as a whole.  I thank you all for this opportunity."

Scougale has been active and contributing to the Daguerreian Society in numerous ways before joining the board.  He has served for many years on the Society's Auction Committee, and helped sponsor the 2015 Annual Conference in Pasadena.

This was an easy vote to make. As a businessman, Doug will bring excellent and important skills to the board in making good financial decisions for the Society. He has been a great supporter.
