This is an enhanced detail of a quarter-plate daguerreotype showing small town America. Even though the many decades have been hard on the plate with numerous scratches and other damage, I am fond of it because it evokes a lifestyle that passed into history around the time of the Civil War. It has the feel of a place that Thoreau might have visited. |
